Milford Cub Scout Pack 722 Going Green

j0433860.pngj0422352.jpgSince the Boy Scout of America’s inception in 1910, members have learned to live the principles of the Scout Oath and Law through community services and “helping other people at all times.” With that history in mind, the BSA has developed a service initiative  Good Turn for America.
Cub Scout Pack 722, based at Orchard Hills School Milford Ct is Going Green by collecting Recyclable Ink cartridges, cell phones, and Toner cartridges for the Good Turn For America Program.

There are collection boxes at OHS School on Marino Drive in Milford and St Agnes Church 400 Merwin Ave Woodmont CT.

All profits from the effort benefit Scouts in the Wepawaug Valley of the CT Yankee Council.

Some area businesses in Woodmont section of Milford are helping us out now like Edward Jones Financial, MilfordBank, and The News Den.

Please check here for the cartridges that we are currently collecting.  Or visit Pack 722 for more information and click on go green.

If anyone has any questions or locates a large amount of ink cartridges, toner, or cell phones please contact Edward Abbazia directly at .

Green Demolitions A Kitchen and Demolition Donation Program

On Sunday my husband, who is a builder and I visited Green Demolitions in Norwalk CT.  Green Demolitions is a donation program for Recovery Unlimited, a non-profit organization supporting an addiction recovery program.  Green Demolitions offers FREE demolition based on quality of cabinets and countertops, brand and the age of appliances.

The store, which is really a warehouse (See above video) has everything from kitchen sinks, tubs vanities, lighting fixtures and tables to really beautiful custom kitchen cabinetry.  Some of the items are brand new with tags still on like an Acrylic Tub which would normally retail around $800.00 being sold for $100.00.  The lighting fixtures were a great deal as well if they fit your personal and homes style.  It’s like a TJMaxx where they get new items in all the time and you never know what it might be.

Dancing Horse, Beautiful…

Every time I watch this it brings a smile to my face.  I am posting this in memory of “Billy” a beautiful horse from Bethany, my heart goes out to you Vickie – All my love, Kim

Going Green in Milford CT

Just read about two forward thinking entrepreneurs Dayan Moore and Alison Grieveson who met while working at Café Atlantique, a downtown Milford, CT café and all around fav meeting place for those who want a little down time before and after their train ride .   Grievenson who designed their website   has a degree in advertising design form the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and now works as a free lance graphic artist.   These cool chicks have developed their own line of fashion accessories from recycled items such as billboard ads (who knew?) and bicycle inner tubes.  They have taken the bright colors which have earned such great brand recognition for companies such as Dunkin Donuts, Saab and others and transformed them into hip one-of-a kind handbags, belts, purses and much more!

They also support local businesses such as Bruce and John Barrett, who own a billboard company and Deborah Row who owns a Daniel Street bicycle shop by obtaining their materials from them.   So in addition to making the earth a greener place they are supporting local companies and reducing their waste. You Go Girls!!

You can find their custom items (and help save the planet by choosing them) locally at Given to Gauche a downtown boutique located at 4 Daniel Street, Milford, CT  or on their website http:   Their “revinylized” bags are water resistant without the uses of chemicals so they are also being offered through several Whole Foods supermarkets as a great alternative to the ‘paper or plastic’ you usually have as a supermarket bagging option.

What is on the horizon for these two dynamos—well they are looking into canvas, nylon and other products used in making sails and you guessed it – since Milford is a seacoast town they are talking to a local sail maker…

Ring out the old, ring in the new.
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.
